COCKROACH NATION
by Matt Pelfrey
"The plays absurdest premise gives rise to many jarring, provocative moments and often humorously probes issues of race, class, the environment, homelessness, and poverty." -- LA WEEKLY
"The audience came out without saying a word -- because they were too stunned by what they had seen." -- Reviewplays.com
Synopsis: A yuppie ad-exec finds himself lost in a dark alley where he undergoes a transformation to homelessness and insanity. He is in the longest, dirtiest alley in the city where he meets the underbelly of a world that is rocketing towards chaos. There is Boone, a self-styled leader who has adopted guerrilla warfare tactics to survive. His sidekick, Cockroach Boy, is an eerie Kafka-esque man who scampers on all fours, and talks in clicks, hisses, whistles, and grunts. And of course, the Trash King, a mythic being who warns all who will listen that "The wrapper outlasts the burger, the bottle outlasts the coke."
